Hi! I'm Jessie,
I'm a mom, former elementary school teacher, and founder of Parent Homework Buddy.

I have spent almost a decade teaching elementary students, with much of my focus on math, science and helping children make sense of challenging concepts. Today, I use that experience to create practical, research-informed resources that help parents feel more confident supporting learning at home. My goal is not to turn parents into teachers. It is to help them understand how children learn, how to navigate challenges at home, and how to use simple strategies that encourage independence. I am passionate about making education feel less overwhelming and more accessible. Parents deserve clear guidance, realistic tools, and support that fits into everyday life.
Why I Created Parent Homework Buddy
During my years in the classroom, I often felt there was a disconnect between parents and teachers, not because either side lacked care, but because they did not always have a shared language or framework for supporting the child between school and home

I believe deeply that parents want the very best for their children. I also know that teachers are working incredibly hard to communicate, support families, and meet the needs of every student in their classroom. Both sides are approaching the child from a place of love, concern, and hope. Yet, without a common understanding of strategies, expectations, and language being used, even the most well-intentioned efforts can miss each other.

When that happens, everyone can feel the strain. Parents may feel unsure, overwhelmed, or worried that they are doing something wrong. Teachers may feel that support happening at home is not connecting with that the child needs at school. Children may find themselves caught between two environments that are both trying to help them, but are not always moving in the same direction.

This disconnect isn't the result of anyone failing. There are countless websites, social media accounts, experts, parenting resources, and opinions telling families what they should be doing. Much of that information can be valuable, but parents rarely have the time to sort through it all , compare competing ideas, and determine what is developmentally appropriate, educationally sound, and realistic for their own family. Similarly, as a parent, I often receive information on what I should be doing for my child, but I am not always shown how to do it.

Homework is often where this challenge becomes the most visible. When a child is frustrated or they are confused, parents can quickly find themselves wondering what to do next. Should they step in, offer a tool, contact the teacher, or give their child more time to work though the struggle? In those movements, parents do not need more advice or another long list of things they should be doing. They need a clear, practical framework they can trust to help them respond with confidence.

I created PHB to help bridge the gap between school and home.

PHB brings together the educational knowledge of teachers, the real-life understanding of parents, and research-informed strategies for child development, learning, and emotional regulation. Instead of asking parents to wade through endless information and piece together a plan on their own, PHB does that work for them. We take strategies, language, and perspectives that matter most and turn them into practical tools families can actually use.

What makes PHB different is our focus on creating shared language and frameworks for everyone supporting the child. We want parents to better understand the teacher's perspective, teacher to feel supported by what is happing at home, and children to experience the consistency between the two. When everyone has common tools and shared language, they love together in the same direction, towards love, learning, independence and growth.
Our Mission
Our mission is to give parents simple, researched-informed tools they can confidently use to reduce homework stress, strengthen family relationships, and help children become more capable and independent learners.

Through our websites, courses, articles, videos and downloadable resources, parents can learn how to create supportive routines, respond to big emotions, recognize productive struggle, communicate more effectively with teachers, and guidance their child without taking over.

PHB is not about asking parents to do more or expecting anyone to do everything perfectly. Rather, it's about making support feel clearer, more connected, and more manageable. It's about helping parents feel capable, teacher feel understood, and children surrounded by adults who are working together on their behalf.

Because, you don't need a PhD to help your child with homework.
